DO I NEED A DENTAL CROWN?

Do you have a broken or damaged tooth? Perhaps you need a crown. A crown is a complete coverage restoration that fits over the existing tooth above the gumline. Typically, we recommend a crown when a tooth is damaged or decayed beyond what a filling can repair.

We recommend ceramic crowns for teeth with:

  • Large, deteriorating restorations
  • Large cavities
  • Recent root canal therapy
  • Severe fractures or excessive wear

CERAMIC DENTAL CROWNS

Addressing your damaged tooth concern with a crown makes it possible for your tooth to continue functioning normally. This returns your ability to chew, bite and smile as you did before.

Dr. Jones recommends tooth-colored, ceramic crowns for most of her patients. Their unique translucent nature allows them to blend in with the rest of your teeth, naturally giving you a smile that’s attractive to look at, yet durable for long term use.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

Your customized crown treatment will typically be accomplished over two separate visits to our office. At your first appointment, we will prep the tooth and create an impression for your new crown. A temporary crown will be placed over your tooth to prevent sensitivity and ensure continued function.

After approximately two weeks, your customized, permanent crown will be ready for delivery. You’ll return to our office, where the temporary crown will be removed and the new permanent crown will be cemented into place. Once you and Dr. Jones are satisfied with the fit and appearance of your ceramic crown, you’ll be on your way with a beautiful, functional smile!

Minimal discomfort is not uncommon after the procedure. Over the counter ibuprofen is typically recommended for those who may experience any temporary soreness following their crown procedure. This is a more intensive procedure than a standard filling.
